Inquest Lawyers Manchester & Stockport

Clifford Johnston & Co. has a team of Inquest Lawyers with the knowledge and expertise to represent you before the Coroners Court.

Our Inquest Solicitors have gained an excellent reputation and are a leading firm in this field.

Our Inquest Lawyers are based in Stockport and Manchester, but with clients across the UK. We can, therefore, assist you wherever you are based.

I’ve been called as a witness/core participant in a public inquest, what now?

Anyone that may be able to contribute valuable information to the inquest will be asked to attend the hearing. People who take an active role are called ‘Interested Persons’ (IPs) (as defined in section 47(2) of the Coroners and Justice Act (CJA) 2009). IPS often include family members of the deceased, representatives of the establishment where the death occurred and those who were directly involved in the care of the deceased.

IPs normally have legal representation throughout an inquest. If you’ve become aware that you are potentially going to be involved in a public inquiry, contact our Inquest Lawyers as soon as possible.

We will help you to make sure that you are thoroughly prepared for the challenges ahead by:

  • reviewing all of documents and evidence relevant to the case
  • helping you to prepare a statement
  • ensuring that you are well prepared and ready to appear at a hearing
  • representing you in court
  • protecting your interests throughout

An inquiry is usually in response to a traumatic incident involving loss of life, or a serious crime, which is understandably distressing and stressful for everyone involved. Even more so if your actions are coming under scrutiny. We understand the impact that this can have on your life, and we will work with you to protect your interests at this time.

If you have been summoned as a witness for an inquest, you will be notified of the date, time, and venue – it’s important to seek legal advice at this stage to ensure that you are fully prepared and to get advice on any practical concerns that you might have about the hearing.

How can we help?

We have a wealth of experience in assisting those affected by a sudden death leading to an inquest and will provide you with the professional support and advice you need to get through this difficult time.

We can liaise with all the relevant people and authorities on your behalf; this may include the Coroner’s office, the Prison Service, the Police, the Prison and Probation Ombudsman or the NHS and request that you have access to all relevant material prior to a hearing. This may include ensuring that you get disclosure of post mortem examination reports, expert reports, medical records and other documents that are relevant to the death.

We can organise expert representation at inquest hearings to ensure that your views are properly communicated and that issues you want explored are fully examined.

We will ensure that you are kept fully updated throughout the process and that you understand all the steps that we take on your behalf.

We deal with a wide range of inquests including deaths in prisons, hospitals and care homes. We act for families and professionals such as midwives, care workers and Prison Officers.
