Working and Investing in the UK
European Union Nationals
European Union nationals have the right to live and work in the UK where they exercise their Treaty Rights. The exercise of treaty rights includes looking for work, employment, self-employment, financial self-sufficiency and studying. European nationals are not required to apply for document evidencing their exercise of treaty rights, but many find it helpful to hold documents.
Our solicitors can advise European Union nationals, and their EU or non-EU family members on the process of applying for documentation to evidence their right to reside in the UK.
Where an EU national has lived in the UK for 5 years and exercised treaty rights, they are entitled to apply for a document endorsing their right to live in the UK permanently. There is no obligation for an EU national to obtain such a document, but it is a mandatory process to be completed before applying to naturalise as a British Citizen.
In limited circumstances, EU nationals can find that the home office consider that it is appropriate to remove them from the UK where there are reasons for public policy, public health or public security. If you have been issued with such a decision and believe that it is wrong, our solicitors can advise on they in which to challenge this.
Tier 1 (Investor) and Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) and Exceptional Talent
Individuals who have funds to invest in the UK can apply to enter or remain in the UK under Tier 1 of the Points Based System.

Tier 2 enables individuals to work in highly skilled positions which cannot be filled by members of the resident labour market. Our solicitors can advise on the points required to show that you meet the eligibility and maintenance requirements.
If you wish to apply work in the UK as a highly skilled, sponsored worker, you will need to ensure that the job that you will fill has been advertised in the appropriate forums and for an appropriate amount of time.
Tier 5 is for Temporary Work, specifically youth mobility, creative and sporting, government authorised exchange, charity workers, international agreements and religious workers.
